Many (if not most) popular songs express similar sentiments from both male and female perspectives. But hearing it today this blatantly...wow....

Don't worry, Trudy, I'm not bashing the institution of marriage here. It's not the desire for a companion that makes it idolatry, it's the "ain't got nothin'" part. Notice in Genesis it's God who makes the call on what does and doesn't make Adam's life incomplete.
I don't think there's much Biblical evidence that a single person's life is worthless....
Lyrics like this deal in hyperbole. I know what the writer means(I think)and, of course, it's not that a single person's life is worthless. -This is just how he feels at that moment, not wanting to be alone, and he expresses it in an exaggerated way to make his point. Or am I being naive about current cultural thought? And am I in way over my head here? And how can two different brains communicate via computer anyway? ~~Trudy
How do YOU know he's exaggerating? Isn't that an unusually optimistic view of his motivations?
The "best" (most easily accessible) idols are the ones that are seemingly slight twistings from things as God intended.
